On the 17th of August, 2025, the Celestine Ukwu Memorial Foundation, under the compassionate leadership of Barr. Cynthia Ukwu, paid a soul-stirring visit to the Home of Refuge for the Poor in Kuchikau, Nasarawa. What began as a simple outreach turned into a life-changing encounter—one that left every member of our team humbled, inspired, and deeply moved.
From the moment we stepped into the home, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine smiles by the head of the orphanage, who graciously shared the story of their journey, their struggles, and their triumphs. Listening to him, our hearts were filled with admiration for the incredible work being done to give these children hope and dignity despite overwhelming odds.
Barr. Cynthia introduced the foundation, speaking passionately about why we do what we do—because love must be shared, hope must be restored, and no child should ever feel forgotten. With tenderness in her voice, she told the children she wanted to be their friend. Their joyful acceptance, their eyes lighting up with trust and excitement, was a moment beyond words.
The foundation presented food items as a token of support, but Barr. Cynthia’s heart longed to do more. When she asked who among them had excelled in their academics, a few children shyly stood up. Their courage, despite their circumstances, melted every heart in the room. She assured them that the foundation would stand by them as they prepare for the next academic session—because their brilliance deserves to shine without limitation.
As we spent more time with them, we discovered their hidden treasures. The orphanage is filled with children of remarkable talents—a young tailor who stitches with skill beyond his years, a budding chef who dreams of feeding nations, and even a football team so talented that they had already taken part in a competition and emerged champions. Witnessing this, Barr. Cynthia, moved beyond measure, blessed them with a cash prize to encourage their gifts and affirm their worth.
But the story does not end there. The head of the orphanage made a heartfelt request—for medical support and clothing for the children. The truth is, this home needs far more than it currently has, and it cannot do it alone. These children—so intelligent, so prayerful, so full of life—deserve every opportunity to thrive. We therefore call on individuals, NGOs, companies, and kind-hearted souls everywhere: partner with us, join hands with us, and let us give these children the future they deserve.
As the day was coming to a close, the children gathered to pray for us. One by one, they lifted their voices, asking God to bless the foundation, strengthen its mission, and enlarge its reach. Their prayers, simple yet powerful, brought tears to many eyes. For in their voices, we heard faith, resilience, and the kind of love that changes the world.
These children are not just beneficiaries—they are shining lights, gifts to humanity. They reminded us that true wealth is not in what we have, but in how much love we give.
